Setting up a new BPS account
Step by step instructions from the Museum of Natural Sciences
Begin
Hey Ed, find below an update on progress and your state of readiness.
- The Kontakt.io beacons have been activated and associated with the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences
- I have super-user status at the moment. This can be retained by me or cut-over to another when the BPS is commissioned. Should this be the Museum’s wish I can remain as a lesser “Admin Manager”. These beacons and the interface belong to the Museum and it is up to them who the single user that holds super-user status is.
- I have created 4 Admin Managers. Ilkka, yourself, Diane and Liani. You will have received an email from Kontakt.io to confirm this process step and a process to follow to create your own passwords. Even as the super-user for this account I do not have access to Passwords. In the event they are lost they can be reset at http://panel.kontakt.io/remind .
- Individual (or all) beacons must be assigned to the manager. ONLY 1 manager per beacon.
- Any questions specific to the Museum of Natural Sciences can be directed to [email protected]. They provide excellent support and documentation.
- You can also refer to docs.squareall.com
- Your G.sheet has been created and linked to the BETA product. I will be populating the g.sheet with the Museum of Natural Sciences’ data and structuring it. I will then provide SHARE rights to the g.sheet for you, Diane and Liani. I can add others on request. I can also use alternative or additional email addressed for each individual. In your case I used your personal email account, not SAS, as an educated guess.
- You will need to have the Kontakt.io app installed on your iPhone, the most-current version always.
- You will need to open the app and sign-in using your email address and password you have created for yourself.
- You will need to be connected to the internet.
- Once connected the Beacons will advance through an update process that will act on the following:
- A firmware update to version 3.1
- Configuring your Beacons as iBeacons (not EddyStone)
- Changing the power setting from the default value of 3 (~30 meter broadcast range) to 1 (~10 meter broadcast range). This can be changed individually (or en-mass) again as required but the majority of installations will see 1 meter (33 feet) as an appropriate size for the beacon cloud.
- Changing the advertising interval from 330ms to 100ms, for greater detection accuracy. This consumes more battery, but this is offset by lowering the power and can be further offset by moving the beacons into a power saving state (ie, after-hours).
- Power Saving state has not been changed.
- You should plan on this update taking a while. The status of the update, on the individual beacons, can be determined on the Kontakt.io app OR on the web-service panel. All beacons must be changed. In the event of any anomalies, please contact [email protected]. This should be straight forward.
- A g.sheet supporting BlindSquare QR’s has been created, will be tested and commissioned. We will schedule a call to review the QR’s and the value for their use in this project.
NEXT STEPS:
- email from me with g.sheet data for Beacons and QR’s. ETA Tuesday Sept 15.
