Are there options for powered beacons?
Yes, as of the date of this article (April/2016) Kontakt.io has entered a beta program with a new product named "USB Beacon".

USB Dongle style from other manufacturers, not suited for use.
Other manufacturers offer USB powered beacons. They present in the form of a tiny dongle, much like you would see for use to connected close-proximity devices such as a mouse or keyboard. This is great for such close proximity's but not suitable for use as an iBeacon who's range could extend to 70 meters.
